You wouldn't believe the peice of heaven we've ended up in. We made it to Hopkinsville Kentucky and are staying at Lovell's Peach and Apple Orchard. The drive in was beautiful. The second we crossed the state line it was nothing but corn, a little steriotypical but the intense green all around us was soothing after the time we spent in Gallatin. The back road to get here was the kind of country road you see in the nice old farm movies. Our room is an apartment above their store which sits near the road. They sell peaches right now since apple season isn't until the fall, or they will sell peaches when the store opens tomorrow. When we got here Rosi had been trying to get everything cleaned up so they could open. She had painted maybe 1/3 of the floor and all the shelves were pushed around into a corner so she could paint. We were excited to have a real project so soon into getting here so we grabbed up some paint and got to work. We gave the floor several layers of fresh paint (red is hard to cover up), washed the walls, painted the main shelves a fresh green color, moved all the furnature around, stocked shelves, and swept it all clean afterwards.
Daniel has been helping Luke do farm work around the property. He took him out to the field to pull a tractor out of the mud and taught him how to drive the two tractors. The smaller white tractor has a huge pull mower (bush wacker) attached to the back used to cut down the waist high grass. The only worrysome thing about that is, to start the white tractor, you have to take a screwdriver and stick it against some metal wires near the battery. The handle is wrapped in a plastic bag so you don't get shocked but it still makes me nervous.
Annabelle is having a blast with all the animals here. There are two dogs, 2 cats, 5 four-week-old kittens, 3 pigs, 7 two-week-old piglets, 4 rabbits, 5 baby bunnies, 2 sheep, 3 goats, lots of ducks, geese, guine fowl, and even a peacock. She LOVES the kittens and will walk right up to them and lick them. If they wander off, she'll follow them to make sure they don't get hurt. The momma cat doesn't like any of it and has smacked Annabelle a few times, but her fur is so thick that she really doesnt feel it. The only thing we have to watch out for is the beagle Jack. He's not fixed and neither is Annabelle so we have to keep them far apart. Annabelle spends most of her time in the apartment because of that crazy humping animal but when we want to let her out to run, we just drop Jack in a pen that's electrified. They normally use it for keeping in goats and chickens but the dog knows all about the shocking power. We lovingly call it, putting the bagle in the toaster.
There's no Wi-Fi out here and hardly any cell service so we're hard to get hold of. We have our camera though and we still plan on posting lots of pictures on the next blog update.
